When I was your age I worked at an ice house. A real ice house. That was hard work, 'course it was always cool workin' the summertime, that was nice. People had ice boxes in their homes back then, not refrigerators, ice boxes. You put a big block of ice in there to keep food fresh. Or you could carve large pieces into swans with their backs scooped out to hold fruit. I tell ya, us guys made it through the day by talkin', trash talkin'! It was fun, we got through the day just fine. The blocks of ice were heavy. The older guys, the old ice guys who had been there forever, always took the light end and we young guys got the heavy end. Some things were worse back then...but a lot of things were better and people often forget those better things. Like sitting down together as a family for dinner, making time for laughing and talking. Figure out what your kid is doin', how he's thinkin'. It's important. Don't forget it.
Overheard @ the workplace.
